Shocking Discovery about Frito-Lay Products
Posted by Ami April 3rd, 2007
There had been a rumor going around our campus that Frito-Lay products are not vegetarian. Some of my friends called the company and spoke to the representatives. Here is what they found out - Doritos, Cheetos, Lays, Ruffles - ANY Frito products with any type of seasoning/cheese seasoning are not Veggie friendly. The enzymes used in making the cheese and seasonings for their cheetos, Doritos, etc. that come from grinded pork! The rep said they became aware of this 2 years ago. Esentially, read the ingredients and if you see any “seasoning” or “cheese” - DON’T EAT IT
People at my school wanted to start a petition requesting them to find alternatives, but she said it would be best for individuals to call, because each call is registered. So, if you are going to miss cheetos and doritos, call Frito-Lay at 1-800-352-4477, Monday - Friday, 9:00am-4:30pm

This is really shocking and that can be true for many other food things. Try to avoid outside as much as we can.

Ami,
Thank you so much for the post, this is ridiculous and should be banned and someone from lawyer side should sue the m for this clean cheating.

Well — those aren’t exactly the most healthy of products anyway, so one more reason to stop eating them

Frito-lay is now getting popular in India also. That is why in Jainism they insist that you do not eat food which you do not know the origin.try to avoid ready made food.

most of the cheeses use Rennet to separate solids from milk. This rennet is derived from stomach of the young calf. The only cheese we know is Cabot Pepper Jack which uses synthetic rennet. PepperJack is quite a good cheese, if you have not tried it.
Also, I think many Swiss cheeses use rennet free process. The cheeses used for most pizza brands also may contain “non vegetarian” cheeses.
Frito Lay probably uses Cheddar cheese, which in turn may use animal derived Rennet.
