Mumbai….my city…..a city that’s been saluted since time immemorial for its resilient spirit….”Salaam Mumbai” say one and all….its ability to bounce back from just about any tragedy a known fact by now.Yet 11th July was a day no mumbaikar is going to forget in a hurry…mumbai’s lifeline local trains…8 blasts in 11 min along the northern spine of the city….along 6:30 to 7…..adjacent train commuters grasped reality as fast as they could stopping their own trains…getting off, helping the victims…pulling them off and bundling them to hospitals even as reports filtered in about more blasts happening elsewhere….news channels went haywire as confused mumbaikars tried to make sense of the enormity of the calamity which struck them! Citizens got down for hands on help not waiting for help to filter in, I have myself witnessed the grittiness of mumbaikars last yr on 26th July when mumbai was in the grip of another calmity albeit, natural then…..then too we had to help each other out…holding hands as ppl frm adjacent residential complexes came in to help depite the heavy downpour…here too..vehicles, food, water, ppl…u name it they were there….willing to pull thier city out even as they had to grasp reality themselves…..everyhousehold was abounding with activity even as images flashed across the tv screen…mouths dry,one heart beat faster we watched as bodies were picked….then hands, then legs…..mangled metal everywhere…..severed heads….rains werent helping at all….in midst of all this one tihng was glaringly obvious….it was a well planned ,cold blooded bastardly act…meticulously organized to paralyse the city….almost succeeded too!200 dead,625 injured and the toll keeps rising by the min even as the city fights back….nothing is closed today….an attempt to normalcy even as frantic efforts are on to locate near and dear ones….
To think this happened in first class compartments….in Mumbai first class is not a luxury, just an effort to avoid the overflowing second class…..first class warrants death?
communication was jammed yest nite thro, even as citizens raged about it…..it makes one’s blood boil that mumbai is victimized everytime and then they say”salaam mumbai” how long? how far?but its a good thing noone cowered, after all it is our city,….top notch leaders have dropped in paralysing efforts even further as the security goes in towards their security…..My city, my beloved city……11th July…….another day, same city, but nothing’s the same again!!!
In the Kojain Convention last weekend, Vijay Chheda made a good point about the positives drawn from the 2001 Kutch Earthquake. Lots of new companies have emerged and price of land in every taluka are rising exponentially.
Kutch district has recorded a whopping Rs 3179.06 crore worth of NRI deposits during the financial year 2005-06… Isn’t that amazing?? Read the complete article
