Have you heard someone say, “i’ll be there in a jiffy!” to mean that they’ll be there “right away”? Ever wondered what a Jiffy is?

Well I discovered today that a “jiffy” is actually a unit of time: 3.3357 times 10 raised to the -11 (3.3357 * 10-11) seconds. It is named for the length of time it takes light to travel 1 cm in a vacuum!

Pretty cool huh? :) Ok I better get back to work in a jiffy. Hope everyone has been well.

I never heard that word before. Is it the smallest unit of time? In Jainism the smallest unit is called Samay. It is said that in a blink of an eye endless Samays passes. When a Jiva is released(died) ,it can take maximum three Samays to reach its next body.

In Jain scriptures, there is a measure of time, called “samay”, a very very very samll fragement of time. thsi samay does not mean “time” but a measure of time similar to jiffy. Our scriptures, and Kevalis describe that.
God Mahavir said: samayam ma pamaye, Goyam; (Gautam, do not be lazy for even a samay (jiffy)!

    Let us remember that.
