Hi Everyone!

I haven’t posted in a while so I thought I’d update all of you about my India trip. So far, I’ve been having a blast! Right now, I am visiting Jyoti Masi in Pune, but I had been going to the dental clinics in Bombay everyday. The first week I was in India, I stayed in Goregaon and went to Dr. Jeetu Shah’s dental clinic in Dhaisar. I would travel to Borivali by train and then take a rickshaw the rest of the way. That dental clinic had about four chairs and about 6 dentists. They also have specialized dentists come in when called for particular cases. This was a good starting point for my research. Next, I started going to Dr. Dinesh Patel’s dental clinic in Ghatkopar. I was pleasantly surprised the first time I walked into his office. It is definitely one of the nicest dental clinics I have seen in Bombay. They have top of the line equipment, each chair has a computer attached where you can see the x-rays and other animations that explain the treatment that is to be given. This dental clinic has two main dentists, both are very nice and willing to show me different things. So far, I have surveyed 101 patients (I”ve hit a century for all your cricket fans out there ;) ). I’ve been really enjoying my work here. Although I can’t actually work directly in the patient’s mouth, I’ve learned a lot just by observing. Many of routine procedures here include root canals, extractions, etc. Although I haven’t learned any of these procedures in my dental school so far, I have become much more familiar with the basic steps of the procedure, and therefore, actually performing the steps myself next year will be a lot easier. I’ve also gotten to see quite a few variations and different cases that are not as common in the general population.

Other then my dental clinic work, I’ve just been enjoying playing with Amay and Arth, spending time with other family members. I also got to attend Ladhi’s wedding the second week I was here and got to meet a lot of my cousins. We also went to Devlali for two days to see Ma and Bapa’s new home and put a Khumb. I’ll try and upload some pictures from my trip soon!

Love, Ami
