2 Miles with Ghulam Ali

Posted by Nimit March 31st, 2006

After work yesterday, at about 8pm, I went to the gym to work out. My usual workout consists of running for 20-25 mins or so, and then lifting weights. I usually run with my mp3 player…which is nice, listening to good music is a good timepass while running. I was under the impression (as you maybe) that I would prefer to listen to upbeat…dhastik dhustik songs while running. Some crazy bhangra or hip hop songs and such. That is what I usually did…but yesterday, it just happened that when I hit play on the mp3 player, Ghulam Ali’s version of Woh Jo Hum Mein Tum Mein came on. This is a very serene ghazal…that I usually listen to it during late nights when I am working. For some reason, I decided to not change the song…and it went on, and I kept running. Then 6-7 minutes later, it changed to Itni Muddat Bad Mile Ho…and that went on, and I kept running. And before I knew it… almost15 minutes had passed! I was really enjoying this Ghulam Ali run.

So I guess there is no real point to this post, except for pointing out my discovery that when you are running, you don’t have to be listening to crazy up beat music to be inspired to keep going :)

And since showering is a popular topic nowadays…I took a hot shower in the gym after my workout, and man it felt GREAT!

I agree with you completely and you don’t need any crazy music, but can do workout with serene songs and music only as well.
I am wondering anyone has tried shower radio and music.

Dude Nimit! My friends and I make it a point to go work out nowadays. However, we work out kinda late at night….usually around 12. But, nonetheless…I’ve gotten to enjoy it once again and love going…even though I feel lazy. We usually listen to pretty upbeat music when we go run and stuff because it keeps us in the mood :) .

Sometimes when I would have time, I would take my boombox in the shower and listen to gujarati ghazals or some hindi music. Ofcouse, this was few years ago. Nowadays, I only hope that Parth’s live music does not go on while I’m in the shower. :)

Nim, I almost never listen to really upbeat music when I run. I was actually having this same conversation with one of my dental school friends the other day. I was telling her that even though most people seem to listen to really upbeat music, that I usually always listen to very mellow music when I work out. It just makes me feel much better and I don’t even realize how the time flies!

this is not related, but my left nipple was kinda hurting towards the end of my run… Any of you doctors know what is going on? I have heard of runners having problems like that (and worse) after long runs…but I’ve never had this before…

I saw Nimit’s post and saw that two comments are already there and click the comment guess what, there were three! Avni just posted one. I think whether you listen to this music or that, it is important to workout.

    dear nim,
I think hirting the way you describe is not related to run, may be some muscle pull etc, watch it for few days, may be rub some bengay onit etc.
